Privacy policy

Draft. This policy is pending legal review and may change before it takes effect.

Who we are

Tutro provides software that tutoring companies use to manage classes, people, quizzes and payments. This policy explains how personal information is handled in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Our role

Your tutoring company decides why and how learners’ and parents’ information is used, so it is the responsible party. Tutro acts as an operator and processes that information on your company’s behalf. For information about company owners and staff who use our website and sign up, Tutro is the responsible party.

Information we handle

  • Account details: names, email addresses, phone numbers and roles.
  • Learner details your company adds: names, grades, classes, attendance, quiz answers and marks.
  • Billing details: invoices, payment status and payment references. Card numbers are handled by Paystack and are not stored by Tutro.
  • Messages sent through the platform, such as payment reminders by email and WhatsApp.

How we use it

To provide the service, send invoices and reminders, process payments, provide support, keep the platform secure and meet legal obligations. We do not sell personal information.

Who can see it

Access is role-based. Parents see only their own children. Tutors see their own classes. Company admins see their company’s records. Service providers such as Paystack and our hosting and messaging providers process information only as needed to run the service.

AI features

AI is used to draft quizzes, suggest marks and answer questions. Suggested marks are reviewed and approved by a tutor.

Keeping information safe

We use encrypted connections, access controls and managed hosting. No system is perfectly secure, and we will notify affected parties as the law requires if something goes wrong.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete personal information, and object to its use. Parents and learners should first contact their tutoring company. You can also contact us through the contact page. You may complain to the Information Regulator.

Changes

We will update this page when the policy changes and show the date at the top.
